Skin care tips for winter

Winter Dry Skin

During the winter, harsh winds, dry air, and heaters take a toll on your skin. For every degree drop in temperature, your body produces around 10% less oil and moisture. This means that due to the cold, the amount of moisture in the air can be lower than what your skin requires.

As your skin starts to lose its natural oils from the epidermis, it becomes dry, flakey and prone to irritation. However, there are a few tips you can follow to ensure your skin is protected from the harsh winter weather!

Yes, even in winter you should be using sunscreen! The sun can cause damage to the skin all year round, so it is important to keep your skin protected and avoid any further potential irritations. Not to mention, it is so important for slowing down the skin's ageing process.

This includes inside and out. It is important to keep up with your fluids and drink plenty of water. It is also important to consider that your skin may need extra moisture compared to normal which may require adjusting your skin care routines. Use a gentle and hydrating body moisturiser that will not further irritate the skin. For the face, it is important not to use any drying products such as products with alcohol as this may further dehydrate the skin and lead to potential irritation. We recommend masking more often to retain and replenish moisture in the skin. LUIERE's Repair Mask is a great choice in winter as it is extremely hydrating with a special ingredient that holds over 2,000 times its weight in water. It also has properties that will sooth, calm and reduce redness for irritated and inflamed skin. When you finish masking, do not wash off the serum as it will continue to work on the skin and draw moisture to your skin. Finish with a moisturiser to seal in the goodness!

If it is a cold winter day, the thought of putting on a cooling mask could be a little daunting, but not to worry! An easy way to solve this is to rub the mask's packaging for 10 seconds before opening!

Due to the harsh winter, the skin's surface will have more dead skin cells than usual. It is important to exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week to remove the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin to avoid clogged pores, flakes and help your skin better absorb your skin care products.

If you happen to own a humidifier it is a great time to use it! You don't need to wait for when you have a cold. In fact, it is a great beauty trick. Ideally, the humidity should measure between 30 and 50 percent (this can be measured with a hygrometer) for the ideal humidity for your skin!
